Studies of vortex flows in restricted domains: results and prospects

Abstract

The main results of numerical simulation of nonlinear evolution of vortex flows in closed domain obtained in the framework of barotropic and two-layer quasi-geostrophic contour dynamics models for a round ocean are discussed. The algorithm of the contour dynamics method, general approach to the study of stability of axisymmetric vortex flows and the method of construction of Vstates are described briefly. The theory and methodology of investigation are illustrated by some examples.
